TASTER DAY

The Taster Day will be conducted by Mr. Bill Thomson, South East Asia Regional Coordinator. Together you will explore a wide variety of styles and repertoire. He will also discuss the requirements and criteria of the ABSRM jazz examinations.

THE ABSRM JAZZ WORKSHOP

The ABRSM Jazz Workshop will be conducted over 5 months (from December 2008 to March 2009, culminating in the ABRSM Jazz Practical Exam in April 2009).

Some of the topics that will be covered in the Workshop are:

• Introduction to Grooving & identifying grooves by ear.
• Overcoming the physical barrier … Learning to relax.
• Exploring Scales & Quick Studies of ABRSM Jazz Grade 1
• Aural Studies
• Keyboard improvisation using guide tones
• Tips on how to be creative in improvisation
• Presentation of ABRSM Jazz Grade 1 exam pieces
• Discussion of requirements in exam and how to score from performance of pieces. (Head/Solo)
• Guidance and preparation for the ABRSM Grade 1 Jazz Examination
• Tips on how to start teaching Jazz
• Other FUN repertoire

WORKSHOP 4: Monday, March 16, 2009 (subject to change)

TIME: All workshops are from 10:00am until 5:00pm
